During this week of Vacation Bible School, we’re going back into the archives of “Today’s Thought”. Enjoy!

"Let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us."

                                                            Hebrews 12:1

I heard recently that a number of years ago, during a Monday night football game between the Chicago Bears and the New York Giants, one of the announcers observed that Walter Payton, the Bears running back, had accumulated over nine miles in career rushing yardage.  At which point another announcer remarked, “Yeah, and he did it with someone knocking him down every 4.6 yards!”

Even the late, great Walter Payton, one of the greatest running backs in the history of the NFL, knew that everyone – even the best – gets knocked down.  But we should look at getting knocked down in the race as a chance to get up and start over.   You see, the key to our lives is the attitude with which we choose to live life, for in our attitude lies our decision to stay down, or our willingness to get up and run again.

Run with perseverance the race God has laid out for you and keep running.  Walter Payton kept running and look where it got him – status as one of the greatest running backs in the history of the NFL.

"Father, Give us the strength and courage to run with perseverance the race you have marked out for us.  And on those times when we fall, help us to feel your gentle and loving hand reaching down to help us up.  In Jesus' name, AMEN."

Grace,

Rev. Dan
