"Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit."

Speaking of carrying the gospel into all the world . . .

I love when folks get creative. And that’s exactly what Voice of the Martyrs has been doing for a long time as it works to get Bibles to the farthest reaches of the earth.

For the last ten years, their Voice of the Martyrs Korea project has used “Bible balloons” to help the Gospel reach the people of North Korea. It is estimated that in those ten years, over 40,000 Bibles have been flown over the border in balloons into the country controlled by Kim Jung Un. As the balloons pop, Bibles fall from the skies down into the hands of people who are hearing the Word of God for the first time.

Recently South Korean police stopped the ministry from its latest launch as the tension and conflict between the two countries has escalated and ongoing discussions for peace have stalled. Fearing North Korea would see more Bibles as a provocation, South Korea has placed restrictions on the ministry.

It is amazing how much we take for granted. We toss our Bibles on the nightstand or the table by our favorite chair, maybe read through them once in a while, maybe never open them, but we always know they are there. Yet around the world, people are hungering for the Word of God and risking their lives to get Bibles to others, or to read their Bible in some secluded place by the light of a candle, hoping they won’t get caught and punished.

Every day we should open our Bibles and the first thing we should do is give thanks to God for His Word, and for living in a country where we can read the Gospel without fear. His Word truly is “a lamp unto thy feet”. Let it light the way for your life, and pray that others around the world can come to the saving grace found in that Word as missionaries and ministries do all they can to make sure His light shines in the darkest places.

"Father, Help us to never take Your Word for granted.  In Jesus' name, AMEN."
